LOOSEWORLD X Sofia Maldonado part 1

Visual Artist Sofia Maldonado has a little something for Times Square’s tourists. She’s just finished a dope as hell mural featuring explosive colors, organic forms, and a crew of Latina women.

Backed by the Cuban Artists Fund and the Times Square Alliance, Sofia spent two weeks sketching, painting, and detailing the the wood cut-outs that make up the piece. Starting February 26, look for the splash of culture on 42nd Street between 7th and 8th avenues.

LOOSEWORLD snuck into the Blank SL8 space at Port Authority to get a peek of the work in progress. Watch our video to hear from the artist herself about the mural and her experiences on the mean streets of Hartford, Connecticut.

You might say he’s a progressive graf artist, or just an art school drop out rebel without a cause, either way Choe along with the other artists featured in the flick “Dithers” are still out there keeping our streets beautiful. Walrus TV got a chance to try and figure out why he does what he does…

“Documentarian and art aficionado Reid van Renesse helms Dithers, the first volume in a projected series of nonfiction films exploring the landscape of contemporary art in 21st century America. This particular film hones in on graffiti painters and other similar street artists. In a protracted series of on-camera interviews, Van Renesse talks to some 30 key painters and illustrators of the urban scene including Sam Flores, Andy Mueller, Ricky Powell, Rich Jacobs, David Choe, Albert Reyes, Dug One, and Tiffany Bozic — and invites them to discuss such topics as how and why they create the art that they produce, the conflicts and obstacles they encounter, what drives them to success (and what represents “success” for them), and the future of postmodern art.” - Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
